To strengthen first language literacy, people need meaningful opportunities to engage with print. In the 1990s there were publications produced by the Literacy Production Centre at Yirrkala Community Education Centre (now Yirrkala School). These publications include the Yän, Yuṯana Dhäwu and Galtha books. They are still resources referred to, and embraced, today. In May 2026 we published our first newsletter, Yuṯa Yän, a collection of stories written in 3 Yolŋu languages. The stories are about learning, events and concepts – encouraging reading in Yolŋu languages and to celebrate the strength of language in print.
